Here’s how ABSC assigns players to recreational teams:
—On-Time Signups:
*The club tries to create enough recreational soccer teams to place all the recreational players who sign up on time. A few on-time registrants may not get assigned, for individual reasons (e.g, practice day conflicts, etc).
*Volunteer age commissioners put together the recreational teams (not the coaches!). They try to grant requests for a particular team or buddy, but it’s impossible to give everyone their first choice. The number one reason a new player doesn’t get onto a requested team is that the team filled up with returning players, who have priority. We try to place new players on a team with at least one friend or schoolmate, if possible.
*Players will be notified if the registrar discovers problems with their paperwork that would keep their registration from being complete and therefore keep them from playing.
—Late Signups:
*Recreational players who sign up late pay a late fee and go to the back of the line. They’ll be assigned to a team:
*after the on-time registrants,
* in order of date of registration,
ONLY after their paperwork is completed, and
ONLY if there is space, according to club guidelines for team sizes (see below). Late registration is the number one reason that returning players do not get assigned to their former team.
*Late registrants might not be assigned to any team initially. But there is always the chance a space will open up by the first week of the season. It costs nothing to wait on the waitlist, because players not yet assigned to a team can always request a full refund.
Priority System for Placement of Players
1. Coach’s own child.
2. Player who registers on time, who requests same team from previous Fall or Spring (slight preference given to prior Fall players over prior Spring players).
3. Player who registers on time, has played for ABSC in prior season who requests a different team.
4. New player who registers on time.
5. Player who registers late, if space is available.
