2. Playing up (new policy)
Players born in August through November after the cut-off may play up by asking the registrar. (If you sign up online, register in the age group specified by birth date, then email the registrar absc2register@yahoo.com to request to play up.) Rarely others will be allowed to play up with coach recommendation, registrar approval, and compelling circumstances. Skilled players looking for a challenge should consider competitive soccer or RecPlus (below).
3. Coed teams
Under-5 and Under-6 all play coed. Girls playing Under-8 and older can register in a girls age group and then ask the registrar for a "mixed" or coed team if they wish. However, be aware that such teams may mostly have boys and will be scheduled to play against many teams that are all boys. Late registrants requesting coed teams must contact the registrar.
4. Programs
Under-5 ABSC Program
Saturdays only – no weekday practice, no teams for the Under-5's. Parent attends and participates with player each Saturday. Fun drills, activities and games with head instructors. Small scrimmages. We are offering a 4-week summer season in July and an 8-week fall season starting in September. Dates of season - click here.
Under-6 program
Most ABSC players play Division IV recreational soccer. Here are some other options:
RecPlus. Under-9 and Under-10 players may request a RecPlus team at registration. Players in RecPlus are not necessarily at a higher skill level or more competitive than those enrolled in the regular rec program, but will have exposure to periodic training on Fridays by one of the outstanding local youth coaches in our area. RecPlus players are expected to have increased motivation and be more focused.
Division III competitive soccer (Under-12 and older).
Players who attended tryouts this spring and were invited onto a Division III team for Fall 2008 should register through their coach or contact ABSC competitive registrar Karen Steinmeyer at 510-558-0634 or ksteinmeyer@alumni.ucsd.edu.
TopSoccer program
For players ages 4 through 14 with any disability that restricts them in playing. Teams are formed by ability, not age. See www.topsoccerleague.org for forms, or call coordinator Manish Doshi at 510-301-1747.
5. What to expect after registration
Players should get an email and/or phone call in June about their team placement and the coach’s contact information. The club website www.abscsoccer.com will have a link to a draft practice schedule in July. Practices may begin in late August. (Exception: No weekday practices for Under-5 or Under-6.) Game schedules should be available in late August on www.mysoccerleague.com. Last minute adjustments to the game and practice schedules can occur. The Fall season will probably run for 10 consecutive weeks, usually starting on the first weekend in September after Labor Day and ending the second weekend in November, with a tournament for players in Under-9 and older on the next weekend.
6. Uniforms
Players purchase their own uniforms. Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are recommended. Sneakers are permitted, but baseball and football cleats are not allowed. No jewelry is allowed.
Starting in Fall 2008, all ABSC teams must wear one of our standard blue and yellow uniforms. The traditional reversible jersey for our younger teams may be purchased at the Blue Barn Clubhouse (August hours will be posted by July 15 – click Uniforms at left). The fancier Puma uniform with separate yellow and blue jerseys is mandatory for ALL Division III (competitive) teams, plus all recreational teams Under-14 and older. Under-12 rec teams may choose between the reversible jersey and the Puma jerseys. TEAM MANAGERS of Under-14 and older teams: Please collect money, sizes, and preferred jersey numbers in June after the teams are announced, so you can order the Puma uniforms in June and have them by August. For more details, click on Uniforms in the left sidebar menu.
7. New Refund policy for players who sign up but then withdraw:
(a) A refund of the $100 volunteer deposit may be requested for any withdrawal.
(b) If a player is on the waitlist at the time of withdrawal, a full refund of all player fees and volunteer deposit may be requested.
(c) If a player withdraws from ABSC BEFORE August 1 (Fall season) or March 15 (Spring season), a full refund of player fees minus $50 processing fee may be requested.
(d) If a player withdraws from ABSC ON or AFTER August 1 (Fall season) or March 15 (Spring season), no refund of player fees will be provided.
Please note that refunds are given only when the player's family submits a request for refund . Click Refunds in left sidebar menu for more information.
