Have you thought about becoming a soccer referee? Our league urgently needs more referees. There are two entry-level referee courses to look for:
The Grade 9 Referee Course is an entry-level 1-day course which qualifies you to serve as referee for the younger age groups in our recreational Class IV (recreational teams) program. It's a good way to get your feet wet and get some experience as a referee. The Grade 9 course must be taken in the same league in which you wish to referee. Check our league website www.accysl.org for upcoming Grade 9 course offerings. Contact our league Referee Program Coordinator Jerry Nelson at 510-883-9507, jertheluddite@lycos.com for information on these and future courses.
The Grade 8 Referee Course is an 18-hour entry-level class held two nights each week for three weeks, plus a 4-hour weekend field training session. This course is for adults and youth 14 years old and older. Check our league website www.accysl.org for upcoming Grade 8 course offerings. The Grade 8 level course can be taken in any league in California, so you may want to check course offerings from other leagues in the area as well (see http://www.d4ra.com/ref/clinics.html). New, inexperienced refs can be teamed up with more experienced refs to officiate in the younger age groups and eventually work up to the higher age groups. Again, for more information on this and future Grade 8 courses, contact our league Referee Program Coordinator Jerry Nelson at 510-883-9507, jertheluddite@lycos.com, and check www.accysl.org.
