format changes for fall 2009

Update on League policies regarding small sided games

In July 2009 the ACCYSL board approved some minor changes to the game formats.  Namely:

*  Under-7 games will be 4v4 only (not 4v4 OR 5v5).
     Additionally the pitches will be configured for THREE simultaneous 4v4 games, allowing a total of 24
     kids to play at once.
*  Under-8 games will remain 7v7 however the following changes will take effect
*  No Offsides
*  "Flying Substitutions" (just bring off a player before introducing a new player - no game stoppage)
*  An additional 5 minutes of playing time per half

Dan Robinson, the ABSC Vice-President, and Pablo Rodriguez, the ABSC Coaching Coordinator, were disappointed that we weren't able to get deeper changes made, however there was a lot of resistance from San Pablo and Richmond (El Cerrito and Mersey were agreeable to more wide ranging changes) and the feeling at the ACCYSL board was that making additional changes would be contentious.   However, it was agreed that for the Spring '10 season that additional changes would be brought up for a vote and that instead of attempting to gain consensus on the changes we would take it to an up or down vote.
