The Academy meets twice a week: once as a skills clinic with a paid coach who specializes in youth soccer, and once as a scrimmage. Depending on the players who sign up, the clinic and scrimmage may be coed and combined ages, or they may be broken out into boy/girl or U10/U12 groups. Drop in any and all days you wish. There are no Saturday meetings.
The Academy will be offered for 8 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 to 5:30. In Fall, it starts early September and ends late October. In Spring, it runs most of March, April, and May. If there is a demand, there may be Academy dates offered on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The coaching component of the Academy will help players to learn individual ball skills and become much more comfortable on the ball, providing key soccer skills training.
The scrimmage component of the Academy is also very helpful to the development of soccer players. As U.S. Soccer points out, young soccer players require a certain amount of uninterrupted play, which allows them to experience soccer first hand. These young players should be allowed the opportunity to experiment, and with that, succeed and fail. A coach's long-term goal is to prepare a player to successfully recognize and solve the challenges of a game on his or her own.
Cost:
$80 for players already registered on an ABSC team - doing both the team and the Academy.
$145 for players NOT already registered on an ABSC team - doing Academy only.
No volunteer deposit; no volunteer hours required.
