Dear Parents and Players,
Welcome to Albany Berkeley Soccer Club's Under-5 Soccer Program!
The objective of the ABSC Under-5 program is to provide young players a "pressure free" introduction to the world's most popular sport. The program is a first step for our youth to have fun playing soccer and to let the game be the teacher.
Here is some information to help you prepare for a FUN season.
1. WEEKLY SESSIONS
During the season you will meet each Saturday morning with your Head Coach. Each session will last 1 hour. The location is Ohlone Middle Field (at Hearst and California St., Berkeley).
The dates of the Under-5 Spring 2008 season - $60/$70:
First session: Saturday, 5th April
Final session: Saturday, 10th May
Possible rain-out make-up date: Saturday, 17th May
The dates of the Under-5 Summer 2008 season - $50:
First session: Saturday, 12 July
Final session: Saturday, 2 August
Possible rain-out make-up date: Saturday, 9 August

The projected dates of the Under-5 Fall 2008 season - $90:
First session: Saturday, 13 September
Final session: Saturday, 1 November
Possible rain-out make-up date: TBD

If your child turns 5 by July 31, 2008, s/he fits in the Under-6 age group for Fall 2008.
Times:
Session #1, 9:00 to 10:00 am with head coach Steven Morrison
Session # 2, 10:15 to 11:15 am with head coach Steven Morrison
Session #3, 11:30 to 12:30 pm with head coach Steven Morrison
2. ADULT PARTICIPATION
An adult MUST accompany and supervise their child during each session.
3. SIDELINES BEHAVIOR
Teams are formed on a weekly basis during the session. During the small-sided (3 vs 3) games between the kids, we ask that parents observe our rules of sidelines behavior. Parents may cheer positively (for both teams) but must refrain from "coaching" (giving directions) from the sideline. This is the time for the kids to play.
4. VOLUNTEERS
Parent volunteers are needed to help with end-of-season event.

5. SOCCER BALL
Each player will receive a soccer ball to keep at the end of the Fall season (no trophies).
6. UNIFORM
Players are expected to wear ABSC reversible jersey and shorts/sweat pants of the player's choice. Jerseys may be purchased through the club at the Blue Barn Clubhouse. Click on 'Uniforms' on the left sidebar menu for location and sales hours (to be posted when available). Appropriate footwear and shin guards, covered by the socks are mandatory at sessions. Soccer shoes, tennis shoes or similar-type athletic shoes are recommended (no baseball cleats).

An added note from our registrar:
The birth date range for our Under-5 program in Spring 2008 is:
8-1-02 to 7-31-03
We have gotten inquiries regarding players with birthdates after 7-31-03. We would like to keep the Under-5 program age limit firm. One reason for this is that we have limited space. Another reason is that the teachers want players with a certain level of development (even though we know all kids develop at unique rates). A third reason is your child's safety -- in the Spring season, half of the Under-5 players have already turned 5.
